What a show! The Henry Miller’s Theater was packed tonight, and many people were on their feet singing (and dancing) along. I wish I could bring everyone up onstage with me! Having this much fun makes the work that much easier! But I have to remind myself to take it slow, I’ve got to do this 8 times a week.
All About Feinstein, Part 8
I made the rounds this morning with Dame Edna, giving several interviews before rehearsal… One of the few times I don’t mind letting her do all the talking. Although I usually have to remind her to mention the show at least once. At the theater, a large box of Dame Edna’s fan mail was delivered to my dressing room by “mistake,” but I have a feeling she just wanted me to see how much there is. Little does she know that all the I get mail too… I’m just letting it collect a bit.
All About Feinstein, Part 7
Dame Edna managed to get her name listed first in the playbill tonight. When I approached her about it backstage, she told me it was simply alphabetical, that “Edna comes before Feinstein.” I’m always amazed by what she gets away with.
All About Feinstein, Part 6
It’s great to be back on Broadway again! This show gets hotter every night. There was a delay in act two tonight (after Dame Edna’s big dance number). She left the stage a few moments and returned apologizing for what she called, “A serious wardrobe malfunction.” I can tell she’s been working overtime on her tap dancing, although I don’t think anyone has told her that louder doesn’t necessarily mean better!
All About Feinstein, Part 5
I would just like to make a public apology to the very kind woman in Row J, Seat 102 who was accidentally hit in the eye with a flying gladioli at last night’s preview performance! I know Dame Edna and I can get a little rough with each other at times, but I’ve never intentionally harmed an audience member. And don’t worry, I told Dame Edna she needs to calm down a bit from now on. Please let my assistant know when you would be able to see Act Two with both eyes fully healed, and I’ll make sure you get the best seat in the house.
All About Feinstein, Part 4
We had our first tech rehearsal with the band onstage today. They are going to rock your socks off! We crowded around and listened to them jam for half an hour, and I even joined in, improvising a little on the piano. Dame Edna started her own version of scatting and somehow ended up on the piano trying to take back the spotlight. Something tells me this isn’t the first time she’s tried that… With the band in place, it’s really starting to feel like a show is coming! It’s very exciting, although you gotta stay on your toes.
All About Feinstein, Part 3
Well, I have to say that hearing Dame Edna scream in rehearsal today may just be the highlight of the week. There had been quite a bit of tension in the air over a missing bag of potato chips (For the record, it was not me who took Dame Edna’s sun chips)… and in the middle of my first show-stopper in Act 2, suddenly there was a giant “PING!” noise echoing through the air as my favorite G# string snapped in two on the black baby grand! Well, that little shock was the last straw, and we had to take a 20 minute time-out session in rehearsal to “collect ourselves” and replace the broken string and missing bag of chips. Aside from the time out, it was a very exciting start to our last week of rehearsals. I just hope the other piano remains unscathed until opening!!
All About Feinstein, Part 2
My 5-days a week cardio routine is really paying off! I’m learning our dance steps so quickly, the choreographer has already doubled the number of routines I have! If they ever try to get me on Dancing with the Stars, I will be dancing circles around the competition! PS – you won’t want to miss the clogging!
All About Feinstein
Hello everyone! I’m not going to lie- I’m getting more excited about my new show by the minute! Today, by the end of our rehearsal we successfully blocked the entire first act of the show! Don’t tell Dame Edna, but I have secretly been using a stopwatch to compare our time onstage, and from the looks of Act One, I must say that the show does seem to be All About Me!
