The rain didn’t keep Broadway fans from lining-up before sunrise for $20 Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson tickets when the Bernard Jacobs theatre’s box office this past Monday. Among the hundreds of fans waiting in line for the windows to open at 10 AM, Nichi Douglas and Jabari Brisport were at the front of the line, and had been waiting since 5. Since they were unable to get student rush tickets for the show’s run at the Public Theatre, this will be their first time seeing the show – and they were clearly ready to wait for the chance!

Right behind them in line was Nicholas Barnes, who had been waiting since 7 AM. When asked what he was most excited about with the show, he described the show’s score as the “best he’s heard in a long time” and stated that “Alex Timbers is a genius. He is the most up-and-coming superstar with two shows on Broadway this season.”

A few feet down the line, Jake McKenna had also been waiting since 7 AM. He loved the show when he saw it at The Public and calls it, “Hysterical” and he “can’t wait to see it on a bigger stage.”

About 50 feet down the line, we bumped into pals Jennifer Brown and Susan Mason, already superfans of the show. They shared with us their plan on seeing the show once a week when it opens on Broadway.

Amongst the dozens of people waiting patiently in the rain for their chance to get inside and get a ticket was Laura Heywood, who had missed the show off-Broadway and couldn’t wait to see it September.

Richard Klein heard about the $20 deal on TalkinBroadway.com and BroadwayWorld.com.

Raellen Forman was on a trip to Ohio which she cut-short in order to hop on the line for $20 tickets. She had never seen the show before, and that deal was just too tempting to turn-down.

One-On-One With Eddie Izzard

One of the funniest stand up comedians is now on Broadway. British born Eddie Izzard first conquered American audiences with his Emmy winning comedy specials. Eddie talked to Pat Collins backstage about why he is open and honest about a personal topic

The New York Times recently published a featured article titled,  “Race: Still Too Hot to Touch”, in which Matt Bai discusses the issue of race in modern politics and culture. The piece begins by stating:

“If Tom Wolfe had set out to write a “Bonfire of the Vanities” on modern Washington, a farce about lives and races colliding, he couldn’t have done much better than to invent the unlikely story of Shirley Sherrod.

An African-American bureaucrat in the Georgia office of the Agriculture Department, Ms. Sherrod became an instant celebrity last week because of a speech she gave to a N.A.A.C.P. convention in March in which she explained the evolution of her attitudes on race. A conservative blogger triumphantly circulated an edited clip in which Ms. Sherrod seemed to suggest that she had declined to help a white farmer in need of aid. (She hadn’t, to which the farmer attested.) From there, Ms. Sherrod was renounced by a jittery N.A.A.C.P., exploited by right-wing commentators, and fired and then unfired from her job, before at last receiving a conciliatory call from the president of the United States.”

It seems that race is more relevant than ever. Throughout time, the controversial issue has taken on new meaning and perspective. Daivd Mamet’s most recent play RACE, shines light on many questions regarding America’s fascination with the topic
